The NMNEC Curriculum Committee has reviewed the 2023-2024 NMNEC Faculty Course Reports and compiled the following summary of faculty recommendations and corresponding committee feedback.

Faculty Recommendations:

  • Level 1 (L1): Move Culture concept back to L1, improve faculty onboarding, revise medication rounding rules, and adjust the NMNEC Clinical Evaluation Tools.
  • Level 2 (L2): Reintegrate Fluid and Electrolyte Balance into L2, add patient & community strengths exemplars, update medication exemplars, and enhance assessment competencies.
  • Level 3 (L3): Minor terminology revision for a concept/exemplar.
  • Level 4 (L4): Distribute content more evenly across levels, integrate pharmacology in all semesters, improve evaluation tools, increase specialty clinical preparation, and require dysrhythmias as an exemplar.
  • Level 5 (L5): Shift psychosis from L4 to L5, redesign evaluation tools, and introduce self-care earlier in the curriculum.

Curriculum Committee Feedback:

  • Culture concept remains in L2; faculty onboarding improvements recommended.
  • Fluid and Electrolyte Balance is currently in L4 as the required exemplars are a better fit for L4, but the concept is inter-related with other concepts throughout the curriculum.
  • Medication exemplar updates and pharmacology integration approved for 2024-2025; re-evaluation planned post-implementation.
  • Dysrhythmias will be a required exemplar starting Spring 2025.
  • Clinical evaluation tools will be reviewed after completion of L4/L5 concept updates.
  • Moving L4 content to L5 is not feasible as L5 is BSN-only.
  • Some programs already introduce self-care in L2; reinforcement in L5 is appropriate.
  • Feedback from faculty is being compiled for consideration when a future major curriculum review and revision process happens.

The NMNEC Curriculum Committee values faculty input through the faculty course process in maintaining a dynamic, up-to-date curriculum.
