NMNEC Diversity Committee
This committee has the mission of ‘valuing and recognizing diversity within NMNEC’. The committee gathers or reviews data pertaining to NMNEC students and faculty to provide insight into developing the diversity of the nursing workforce. The committee goals include:
- Look at how NMNEC is valuing diversity and inclusiveness based on the lived experience of students and faculty.
- Learn how NMNEC evaluates our teaching/learning environment for inclusivity and equity in relation to diversity.
- Provide resources and guidance to NMNEC programs and faculty through the NMNEC Curriculum Committee, NMNEC Program Evaluation Committee, and NMNEC Leadership Council.
- Provide an ongoing process of continual evaluation and program support related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
NMNEC Definitions
Diversity
According to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (2021), “Diversity references a broad range of individual, population, and social characteristics…” and diversity goes beyond sex, age and gender.
Equity
According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (2021) defining equity, equity “refers to fairness and justice and is distinguished from equality. Equity means recognizing that we do not all start from the same place and we need to make adjustments to imbalances.”
Inclusion
Inclusion represents environmental and organizational cultures in which everyone works to ensure the diverse perspectives and experiences of others are invited, welcomed, acknowledged, and respected in inclusive environments” (AACN, 2021).

NMNEC Diversity Committee generally meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 4-5pm during the fall and spring semesters. If interested in joining this committee, contact staff@nmnec.org
